SONY'S
MICRO VAULT HAS A NEW LOOK AND FASTER
TRANSFER SPEEDS

RIDGE, N.J., Feb. 25, 2004 -- Adding a
new dimension to its line of Micro Vault
USB storage media, Sony is introducing
models with smaller, sleeker designs, new
colors and faster transfer speeds.
The
original Micro Vault, which ranges from
128 MB to 512 MB in storage capacity,
will now be about 35 percent smaller
than the previous version. The units
will feature new metallic gray shells
with translucent color accents in blue,
violet or orange, which will correspond
to the different storage capacities -
128 MB, 256 MB and 512 MB, respectively.
The
recently introduced "mini"
Micro Vault will now be available in an
"ultra mini" form factor,
measuring only two inches long and about
a half inch wide. The shell will feature
a sleek silver finish, and the device
will be available in 64 MB, 128 MB and
256 MB storage capacities.
"Consumers
expect their notebook computers, cell
phones and other portable electronics to
make a style statement, so it makes sense
that their storage devices should look
great as well," said Michael Lucas,
director of consumer and convergent media
for Sony Electronics' Media and
Applications Solutions Division. "The
significant increase in transfer speeds is
a great way to back up the products' good
looks."
Both
of the newly designed Micro Vault models
will be equipped with faster data transfer
speeds. Users will enjoy a read speed that
is twice as fast as the original versions
(12MB per second) when used with a USB 2.0
port, and a write speed that is seven
times faster (7MB per second). Both models
will be bundled with the current software
suite that includes Password Lock, Auto
Login, Auto Zip and PC Lock.
Sony's
newly designed Micro Vault original and
mini versions will be available in May for
suggested retail prices ranging from
$49.99 to $199.99.
These
new Micro Vault offerings follow closely
on the heels of the December introductions
of the Micro Vault with Fingerprint Access
and the Micro Vault with Memory Stick
reader/writer capability.
Leveraging
the convenience and security of
fingerprint identification technology,
Sony's Micro Vault with Fingerprint Access
stores and automatically enters users' web
site IDs and passwords by registering
unique users' fingerprints through a
sensor. The Micro Vault with Fingerprint
Access (Model USM128C) is available at a
suggested retail price of $129.99.
The
Micro Vault with Memory Stick®
media reader/writer capability offers the
benefit of two storage devices in one,
allowing easy movement of data between the
removable Memory Stick media and the Micro
Vault's 128 MB of embedded memory, or
directly to a computer. Micro Vault with
Memory Stick media reader/writer
functionality (Model USM128B) is currently
available at a suggested retail price of
$89.99.
