SAVANNAH FILMMAKER WINS THE
SCION xPRESS FEST MUSIC VIDEO COMPETITION
(June 26, 2006)
After months of screening events and thousands
of online votes, Scion xPress Fest, a
competition that gave promising student
filmmakers a chance to create music videos for
unsigned bands, has announced Mike Goubeaux from
the Savannah College of Art and Design the
winning filmmaker. Goubeaux will take home the
$20,000 cash prize.
Goubeaux won by
receiving the most votes on
www.ScionxPressFest.com for his video of the
song "Trains" by Summerbirds in the Cellar. The
three finalists included Goubeaux, Henry Joost
of Columbia University ("Albacore" by Palomar),
and Collin Redden of Chapman University
("Nobody" by Monsters are Waiting).
"I am thrilled
that such a wide audience has seen my music
video and decided to place it at the top,"
stated Goubeaux. "I feel lucky to have been
part of Scion xPress Fest and have been honored
to exhibit work alongside the other filmmakers.
I look forward to seeing another round of videos
next year."
Continuing in its
dedication to shine a spotlight on promising
talent, the Scion xPress Fest is a national
student filmmaker competition that matched
filmmakers with indie-bands. Film students were
asked to submit music video treatments for a
chance to create a music video for an
up-and-coming band. The students with the best
music video concepts, as decided on by a panel
of film and music video heavyweights, were
provided a budget to bring their idea to life.
All 10 regional finalist videos have been
screening at events across the country since
February 2006. The three videos that received
the most votes by attendees at the screening
events were aired for the public online. The
top online vote getter is awarded the $20,000
grand prize.
