FREE Video Hosting Web SitesWhere to Upload Your Internet Video Updated November 13, 2009 By Mark Shapiro ================================ If you are shooting and editing Internet and web video, sooner or later you are going to want to upload it and share it with the rest of the world. Maybe you just want to share it with one or two people - maybe you want an audience of millions. None of that is going to happen until you compress, upload and post your video to a Internet video sharing and hosting site. Luckily, there are thousands of sites that host your videos for free (see list below). These smaller sites are often targeted to specific audiences or have channels with an audience that will really want to see your video. There is no rule that says you can only upload your video to YouTube. Hit them all. Some may have an exclusivity clause or language (especially if they are paying you for each time your video gets seen), but most don't. Spread your video across as many web hosting sites as you can. Yes, you should post your video to YouTube. But, as YouTube gets maybe nearly a 100,000 videos a day, it is hard to make your video stand out and get noticed. That is why you also want to post your video on one or more other web video hosting sites. (see below for articles and tips on how to promote your videos and make them stand out!) Most sites will want you to join as a member. Its usually free. You may also want to check out some of "commercial" sites. Many of them offer a free "starter" hosting service for a limited amount of video or bandwidth. These can be very useful if you are targeting a specific audience for your video. Most sites will accept almost any type of digital format video - as long as it is in one of the many standard formats, resolutions and file types. However, if you do a little digging on the site, you will find that if you want your video to look and sound really good on that site, you ought to upload it in their recommended format and size. For example, according to the people at YouTube, they will accept a wide range of video types but - if you really want your stuff to look good - if you want the best final quality, they recommended that you upload your video as a H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 file at either of these resolutions and screen dimensions - 1280 x 720 (16x9 HD) and 640 x 480 (4:3 SD) I am sure you have noticed that lots of YouTube web videos look fuzzy and sound poor. They didn't follow the recommendations and just let YouTube's automated conversion process do the best job that it could. I am sure you realize that the YouTube staff do not have time to look at each video and to make sure it is optimized to look good. That is your job. The same holds true at all the other "free" video hosting sites. If you want your Internet video to look good, upload it at the recommended format, resolution and size. Here is a link to the YouTube Upload FAQ - this information changes regularly so check before you edit and compress. ======================================= VidBlogger Guide - Live Video Sites - Turn your videocam into a videoblogger - realtime Internet TV Shop - These sites enable you to broadcast an Internet video stream in real time - sort of like a live TV show. ================================================ Twittervlog.tv personal directory of video blogs and video podcasts - This is a ongoing listing - a work in progress - many of the world's top individual video bloggers listed in alphabetical order - The best VideoBlogs & Video Podcasts
