CRACKLE.COM ANNOUNCES SPRING 2008 MOVING TARGETS CONTEST WINNER
Josh Covitt’s ‘Talk to Kids PSA’ Cracks up Crackle and Sony Pictures Television Execs
Crackle, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, has named Josh Covitt the winner of its Spring 2008 “Moving Targets” sketch comedy competition. Talented sketch comics across the country submitted their best work to the streaming entertainment network’s Moving Targets channel with the hope of winning a $10,000 cash prize, a chance to discuss ideas for a show for online distribution on Crackle as well as secure a pitch meeting with Sony Pictures Television executives.
Josh Covitt’s short sketch comedy film, “Talk to Kids PSA”, was inspired by a real public service announcement he saw while watching the World Series, which encouraged abstinence-only sex education teachings. He decided to spoof the advertisement, creating his award-winning film.
“Crackle's contest is set up to identify the best and brightest upcoming creators, and Josh's promise as a director and creator clearly shines through this piece,” said Sean Carey, senior executive vice president, Sony Pictures Television. “His spoof of the PSA was not only hilarious and very smart, but exceptionally well-crafted and filmed as well.”
As a result of winning the Moving Targets contest, Josh will meet with Crackle executives to discuss his ideas for recurring webisodes/series on the network and also have the opportunity to present his ideas to Sony Pictures Television.
An Encinitas, CA native, the math tutor and filmmaker began making comedy films in high school and continued to do so at UCLA, where he majored in film and founded the University’s improvisation comedy troupe. Talk to Kids PSA was filmed in one week; the first film for Josh’s latest sketch brand, The Attack.
“I was watching the World Series when I saw this PSA for abstinence, and I thought, ‘this thing has to be spoofed,” said Josh. “I created the film and posted it to Crackle, so I could get more eyes on my work. I never expected to win the Moving Targets contest, but I couldn’t be more thrilled and I’m looking forward to sharing my ideas with Crackle and Sony execs!”
