Redux.com Publicly Launches Friend-Sourced Online Entertainment

Start-Up Brings Its Addictive Real-Time Media Delivery Site to the

Masses

Berkeley, Calif. December 1, 2009 Emerging from closed private  beta, Redux, the Berkeley, CA based online media start-up, announced  today that it is opening its friend-sourced online entertainment  service, Redux.com, to the public. Redux aims to fill an online void  by providing the best entertainment on the web, pushed in real-time  from one friend to another. This "friend-sourced" approach to content  delivery, combined with Redux innovations such as "TV mode", Twitter/ Facebook feed importing, and in-line media conversations have identified Redux as an innovator in online entertainment as more  internet media makes its way to television.

Each day, millions of pictures, videos, and links are shared on  thousands of websites and social networks across the web, creating a  huge problem in terms of how users find not only new material, but  material that is personally interesting to each individual. As a  result, users spend hours digging through stale material, status  updates, and blind links in order to find new and entertaining content   a problem that becomes crippling when transferring the online media  experience to a television set.  Additionally, most "crowd-sourced"  content delivery networks tend to provide content determined from  "power users" as opposed to empowering all users to decide what's  entertaining, the Redux way.

“From day one, our goal has been to dramatically change and improve  the way the world finds entertainment online personalizing the  experience and giving users the ability to tune into the internet the  same way they tune into their televisions.” Said Redux CEO and Founder  David McIntosh, “The solution we created with Redux.com actually improves on the television model by leveraging the power of ‘friend- sourcing’ to create a unique experience that allows our users to enjoy  a constant real-time stream of new material fed to them only by people that share their interests. The result has been a huge proof of  concept success, with strong, steady growth since launch and a  dedicated user base that spends, on average, over an hour tuned into  Redux per visit. That is just an incredible statistic.”

Some of the key features included in Redux.com:

Real-Time Stream and TV Modes

Redux users view their personalized entertainment in 2 primary modes:  stream and TV mode. In the Redux stream, users actively participate in  a content rich conversation constantly updated in real-time with the  best material bubbling to the top from the users and channels that  they follow. With the innovative TV mode, Redux users “tune in” to any  channel or user stream and sit back while Redux plays content from  that stream in full-screen mode still constantly updated with the  latest material and still tailored to their personal interests. With  TV mode, Redux truly enables users to enjoy internet media in a way  that could one day change the way we watch television.

Twitter and Facebook Feed Importing

Interesting videos, pictures, and links are shared constantly via  social networks, particularly Twitter and Facebook. However, that  content is often buried under thousands of status updates, online  gaming alerts, or hidden behind shortened links (such as TinyURL or  bit.ly). With Redux, users are able to view their Twitter and Facebook  feeds and bring together their online lives in one place and see a  real-time stream of entertaining Web content being shared by their  friends. Once these streams are in Redux, users view what their  friends are sharing in stream mode where users comment, prop, and push  that content to other Redux users, or in TV mode, where they sit back  and watch the stream come to life.

Props, Comments, and In-Line Media Conversation

Many online media sites have some form of commenting or voting on  content, but the conversation created is often static, with little  true interaction between participants, and with even less impact on  the content pushed to other users. With Redux, the conversation  surrounding content is completely interactive, allowing users to  respond to media with media that can be played by others right in the  stream. Also, any content that receives a comment or is given “props”  by a Redux user is immediately pushed to the top of the Redux stream,  creating a true real-time conversation, with the freshest and most  entertaining material constantly bubbling to the top.

Highly Personalized, User-Generated Channels

Redux allows users to subscribe to hundreds of user-generated channels  populated with the best videos, pictures, and links for any interest.  Whether it’s cute cats, one hit wonder music videos, hockey fights,  movie trailers, 80’s cartoons, or any number of other interest areas;  if a user loves it, Redux has a channel for it. Once a user starts following a channel, any new content fed into that channel is  immediately fed into the user’s stream, adding to their friend-sourced  Redux experience.
