Media Excel to Showcase Superior Multiscreen Encoding, Transcoding, and Contribution Solutions at BroadcastAsia2013

MPEG-4 AVC and H.265 HEVC solutions target broadcasters, content providers, and telco operators

BroadcastAsia2013, Singapore, June 14, 2013 Media Excel will be highlighting its multiscreen MPEG-4 AVC encoding and transcoding solutions during BroadcastAsia2013 at stand 5K2-01 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore from June 18-21. The company will also present its new low-latency HERO contribution encoding platform specifically designed for point-to-point delivery over IP and ASI networks. The well-established HERO product line addresses the need to deliver the highest picture quality over limited-bandwidth networks across all screens, with live and VoD adaptive delivery over HLS, Smooth, Flash, and MPEG-DASH to consumer devices.
Media Excel will also demonstrate how its products are upgradeable to its Intel®-powered H.265 High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) encoding technology. This allows operators to extend their ROI by maintaining the same quality as MPEG-4 AVC encoding while utilizing only one-half the bandwidth, or by doubling the amount of content using the same bandwidth.
"Broadcasters and content providers fight a never-ending battle between quality and bandwidth, with the goal of making sure that viewers watching on any device receive the content they expect in the highest possible quality," said John Hotchkiss, COO of Media Excel. "Our state-of-the-art HERO video processing and HMS workflow management solutions help to win that battle by delivering highly available, high-quality services for mission-critical, low delay applications."
Media Excel Expands Reach into Asia-Pacific, Asia, and the Middle East
Worldwide deployments of the HERO platform have given Media Excel an expanded presence in the Asia-Pacific region with recent wins at the three largest telcos in South Korea—SK Telecom, Korea Telecom, and LGU+. Media Excel's HERO platform was selected by all three to power each company's large-scale multiscreen transcoding projects. These deployments in Asia-Pacific join Australia's Telstra, which has been using Media Excel solutions for high-quality mobile video distribution to 10.5 million mobile subscribers, including 8.2 million 3G subscribers.
In Western Asia, Media Excel is supporting the entire transcoding infrastructure of Dogan TV's new OTT platform, netD. As Turkey’s leading commercial broadcaster, Dogan TV looks for ways to monetize its content by enhancing the overall user experience across all screens. With HERO, Dogan TV is delivering both live content and thousands of hours of VoD content that has been broadcast since the 1990’s, along with premium content from studios as free-to-air or premium services to PC, tablets, and smartphones. HERO transcodes Dogan TV's video assets and packages them in HLS and Google/Widevine-compatible formats to reach the maximum number of devices while keeping the operational complexity and overhead at a minimum. Media Excel’s industry leadership with MPEG-DASH was instrumental in Dogan TV’s decision, as the format will be implemented in the near future.
In Central Asia, Mediabay is leveraging HERO transcoding and HMS network management for OTT multiscreen delivery of live ethnic content worldwide. Their services are now expanding to include additional Central and Western Asian ethnic content for worldwide distribution.
UAE-based multinational operator Etisalat has been using Media Excel adaptive multiscreen delivery services in South Asia for a number of years. This year, Etisalat deployed additional channels to provide value added services to its customers.
Israel-based Vidmind recently partnered with Media Excel to produce SnowCannon, a VoD transcoding workflow manager. SnowCannon is in field trials with a number of operators, including a leading East European household brand—a newcomer to the lucrative TV marketplace. Vidmind’s first ever fully managed Cloud TV service will bring a comprehensive home entertainment experience—including live HD, VoD, catch up TV, social features, and a TV app market—to the brand’s multimillion customer base. Media Excel was chosen by Vidmind for its high-quality transcoding solution and the adaptability of the HERO platform. HERO transcoding can be operated as a local service or as a Cloud service. This allows Vidmind to run the encoding process at the customer’s headend while managing all services through the Cloud.
"Our recent wins in APAC are a direct result of Media Excel's unique IP transcoding technology that delivers superior quality video to all consumer connected devices," said Hotchkiss. "Tens of millions of paid multiscreen subscribers around the world enjoy high quality video, while their service providers benefit from an effortless, reliable, and low-overhead operation."
As part of its expansion, Media Excel is seeking VARs to leverage their local knowledge and market access. Media Excel offers sales and support training programs designed to serve joint customers better by leveraging the expertise of both teams.
