Internet Video
Magazine Newsletter – October 9, 2006
The
online video editing market is really jumping.
There are a few companies in this space. The big news however that
Yahoo! acquired Jumpcut, the creator of a Web property and
application that offers a publishing tool and an interactive user
community.
According to Yahoo, "The acquisition of Jumpcut complements Yahoo's
multimedia strategy and includes assets such as a strong team,
unique technologies, emerging brand, business partnerships and a
growing community of users." To learn more, details are available in
a post on the Yahoo! Search Blog,

All are offering very cool and fun online video mixing applications.
Other
big new is the rumored purchase of YouTube by Google for 1.6
billion dollars! And this is despite the fact that YouTube has
not yet made any profits. It seems like the Internet bubble is
back but now it has an online video focus. On top of that, this
morning,
YouTube Inc. cut a deal with CBS and two major music labels to
provide music videos without worrying about
copyright-infringement lawsuits.

Webcams are great
for capturing short video clips and live video messaging across the
Internet.
Plus, webcams can be used for remote monitoring, some even with
motion detection. But you don't necessarily want to tie up a
computer to act as a video server for a connected webcam, so a
better option for this kind of use is to use a dedicated Internet
camera with a built-in network interface, like the Creative Live!
Wireless.

This is a very
different type of online video contest
- Pin the Tail on the Culture, Inc. announces a contest to find
the most beautiful walker in the USA.
In an effort to support and promote the aesthetics of curvaceous
beautifully walking women, the company will award three
prizes to the best entries. (Note that we’re NOT saying
beautiful walking women, but beautifully walking
women—the face is irrelevant, only the walk is important.)
The company will showcase all acceptable entries on the company’s
contest website,
http://www.poetryinmotion.info along with links to the
contestant’s web address or email. When winners are picked in
January 2007, they’ll be announced on the site.

This is very
interesting. Sort of like a google search for video and audio. By
extracting and analyzing the audio for audio and video podcasts,
converting it to metadata that can be searched, the HearHere
software application from Pluggd allows users to jump right to their
area of interest in podcasts. Relying on speech recognition and
semantic analysis within its media player, HearHere lets users skip
commercials in the beginning of a podcast or bypass the baseball
highlights to jump right to the football segment in a sports
report.

Great Net Videos and Video Web Sites
If you
are into technology or the latest happenings in the blogosphere or
are way beyond Wired, you got to check out
Revision3 - a cool online TV show channel with a variety of
different shows that look at the world from a hip yet techie
perspective.
In their
words, "Revision3
is the first media company that gets it, born from the Internet,
on-demand generation. Unlike aggregators, mash-ups, clients and web
sites, Revision3 is an actual TV network for the web, creating,
producing its own original entertainment and content. The content is
designed for a new audience. This audience, like television, expects
dependability and quality, but unlike television, wants a more
gritty, edgy, highly-targeted and in-depth form of entertainment.
With the proliferation of mobile video, iPods, Tivo and other
Internet-connected set-top-boxes, video that is both on-demand and
tailored to suit will be Revision3's specialty. Revision3 delivers
technology, comedy, music, cooking, and more, all with the familiar
faces you all know with years of experience."

This is a great concept and a fun video to watch. It's a mashup
- where you take various sources and hook them up together to
create an entirely new and unique piece of entertainment. Mix a
popular modern song with a classic Marx Brothers flick and you
get
Get Retarded/Day at the Races Mashup
Lets
Talk about Sex - this funny
five minute flick at Triggerstreet.com is all about a dinner
conversation in which a young couple discover things about
themselves and each other that they had never before thought of.
Written and directed by Ryan Moser, the film was shot entirely
guerrilla style in a running restaurant. The actors wore lavaliere
mics and the footage was exposed with practical lights.
This is
very goofy and not the type of "realtime" video that we would
ordinarily feature - but - it is interesting and has spawned a
number of parodies and imitators.
