With a title like “Dying for Sex“, I expected something a bit lighter and shallower, more of a ROM-COM. However, I was wrong.

Hulu’s new series Dying for Sex is brilliantly written, directed and acted. As a former film major and director, I truly appreciated the laid back but excellent cinematography and lighting.

This 8 part series (on Hulu and FX) is a raw, hilarious, and deeply moving story that grabs you by the heart—and refuses to let go. Based on the hit Wondery podcast, the show follows the real-life journey of Molly, a woman who, after a terminal cancer diagnosis, decides to ditch the rules and live life on her own unapologetic terms… through a series of outrageous and oft times funny sexual escapades.

The series stars Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate, and includes recurring scenes and chapters with Rob Delaney, David Rasche, Esco Jouléy, Jay Duplass, Kelvin Yu, Sissy Spacek, and Zack Robidas

Michelle Williams is a break out star here and should be awarded with Hollywood awards. From second to second, watching her face transform from one emotion to another, from confusion to awareness, is breathtaking. She is amazing.

What makes Dying for Sex truly exceptional isn’t just the steamy, laugh-out-loud moments (though there are plenty), but the profound emotional depth layered underneath. The bond between Molly and her best friend Nikki (played with stunning vulnerability and wit by breakout star performers) anchors the show in something real and achingly beautiful. Their friendship is the lifeline through all the chaos, heartbreak, and hilarious dating and kinky sex disasters.

Stylistically, Dying for Sex is a whirlwind: it’s sexy without being shallow, funny without losing its soul, and devastating without feeling hopeless. The writing is sharp, the dialogue sparkles with authenticity, and the visual style is vibrant, colorful, and just a little bit chaotic—perfect for the wild emotional terrain it covers.

In many ways, Dying for Sex is a celebration: of life, of love, of taking risks even when the clock is running out. It reminds you to live, laugh, and love a little louder—and maybe text your best friend right now just to say you love them.

This show is a must-watch, an emotional rollercoaster that will have you crying, laughing, and maybe appreciating life even more. You might even be inspired to get a little kinky as well.

Sexy, chaotic, emotional, unforgettable. I recommend you watch it with someone you love.

Dying For Sex

“Dying for Sex” is inspired by the story of Molly Kochan, originally shared on a Wondery podcast created with her best friend, Nikki Boyer. After Molly receives a diagnosis of Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, she decides to leave her husband Steve, and begins to explore the full breadth and complexity of her sexual desires for the first time in her life. She gets the courage and support to go on this adventure from her best friend Nikki, who stays by her side until the very end.
