You can easily watch the latest series of Love, Death & Robots in a single evening – With most of the ten episodes, each clocking in around 15 minutes or less, this makes it simple to experience.

The latest volume/season of Love, Death & Robots premiered on Netflix on May 15, 2025, delivering ten new animated shorts that continue the series’ tradition of blending science fiction, fantasy, horror, and dark comedy.

While the season showcases extremely impressive animation and creative storytelling, it has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike.Metacritic+16Decider+16Rotten Tomatoes+16

I have seen all previous volumes of Love, Death & Robots and I must confess that I wasn’t blown away by the story telling. Yes, the various styles of animation are amazing but the plots left me a bit deflated. Unlike Black Mirror (a similar anthology series on Netflix) these stories were forgettable.

My Favorite Episodes

“Can’t Stop” If you are a rock & roll fan – if you love Red Hit Chili Peppers, you got to see this episode. This is the opening film in the latest volume. Plus, turning on the captions, I could finally understand the lyrics!

“How Zeke Got Religion”: A 2D animated short blending war and horror genres, featuring a unique confrontation with a fallen angel. Polygon+1The Verge+1

“The Screaming of the Tyrannosaur”: An action-packed fantasy episode set in an orbital arena where gladiators and dinosaurs compete, featuring a cameo by MrBeast. Rotten Tomatoes+1The Verge+1.  The animation was amazing!

“Smart Appliances, Stupid Owners”: A comedic tale where smart devices express their grievances about human mistreatment. The Verge. In my opinion, this could have been a lot more controversial and vicious. But it is cute.

“Golgotha”: The series’ first live-action short, focusing on a priest and a messianic dolphin amid an alien invasion. The Verge+1AVForums+1. It needed a better ending.

Animation and Direction

Volume 4 continues to showcase a diverse range of animation styles and storytelling techniques. Notable directors for this season include Tim Miller, David Fincher, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, and Robert Valley. The animation is handled by studios such as Blur, AGBO, and Polygon Pictures. Voice Cast and Cameos

The season features a star-studded voice cast, including John Boyega, Ed Skrein, Amy Sedaris, Melissa Villaseñor, and John Oliver. Additionally, the Red Hot Chili Peppers appear as puppet versions of themselves in the surreal music video-style opener directed by David Fincher. Decider

Should You Watch It?

Critics generally appreciate the creative risks and standout episodes, but some viewers feel the season lacks the cohesive storytelling and impact of previous volumes.

Nevertheless, for fans of imaginative animation and sci-fi narratives, Volume 4 offers a variety of stories that continue to push the boundaries of the genre

What are the Critics saying?
